The British Indian Orthopaedic Society

Welcome to the British Indian Orthopaedic Society (BIOS) UK.  The motto of the Society is “Excellence through Education”.  The British Indian Orthopaedic SocietyBIOS aims to provide educational and research support   to Orthopaedic Surgeons of Indian origin (UK or India born) currently in Training or Practicing in the UK, as well as those, who at any time have been trained in the UK over a substantial period but are now settled in India or other countries.

The British Indian Orthopaedic Society organises and lends support to various online and face to face meetings, courses and training sessions organised at local, regional and national level, as well as acting as a platform for informal discussion among its members on issues of mutual interest.

The British Indian Orthopaedic Society is a Specialist Society of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and as such provides a vital link for professional training and education, with a place on the Council. The British Indian Orthopaedic Society participates in regular meetings of the Specialist Societies network and the BOA Research Committee.

Our executive committee including the President and the rest of the office bearers are elected from among the members for a three-year term.

The British Indian Orthopaedic Society sponsors a number of key fellowships in consultation with the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) as a part of the Indo-British Travelling Fellowship Programme. The IOA and British Indian Orthopaedic Society hold a Special partner relationship for the promotion of Orthopaedic education and training across the two continents. The British Indian Orthopaedic Society is currently developing fully funded short term fellowship training opportunities for British trainees (BOTA) and the British Indian Orthopaedic Society members at BIOS recognised centres of excellence in India.

 The British Indian Orthopaedic Society holds its own annual scientific Conference in July every year which supports GMC revalidation on current topics with a host of invited speakers of international repute. The British Indian Orthopaedic Society also participates in a “BIOS Session” at the Annual Conference of the BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) and also hosts the triennial “Indian Summer” at the BOA which showcases the talent of Indian origin Speakers from an international Spectrum.
